I have read so much good W7 short about Windows 7, and heard because I had to simply shut when the RC in MSDN subscription. I was so brave and I killed my Vista and installed W7 about it.
DVD in and off it went. It was not long since I was asked after the partition where I wanted to install the part. I chooses the Vista partition deleted them and also formatted. Then I selected the partition and clicked Next. But what is that? W7 said it find no partition where it can install itself. But I still just created one. After some search, got the idea that I can change the SATA port on ICH8 chipset yet any a mode. After some searching I did then. But, it will be probably different for each system. I could then select the new partition and install. SATA port is then operated in a very compatible mode. After installing, you can change that again.
It was then also fast. Long and I was asked for a login name. Shortly before I asked even after the Wi-Fi connection information. I found this cool. When installing W7, you can configure the wireless network.
After another restart I could then login the first time. The Welcome screen and the new "Hourglass" came. Is known already of Vista. That ran and ran and ran and ran and... you can guess it already. The WLAN did like crazy, so I thought as anything else will be downloaded. But after 20 minutes I then lost their nerve and have simply turned off the laptop. The splash screen came back after the next login. But not as long. Then I was the first time in the W7. Cool.
First is Yes simply screw announced. It's easy to find everything. On Vista, there are still things where I don't know where to set it. W7 I found on all anhieb. Know not how, but it is more intuitive.
It feels much more quickly than Vista. It is clear at this time. Yes just freshly installed.
W7 began also to load various updates. It was actually not updates but driver. It was found almost everything. Even the video card. However, I have loaded version of the driver for NVidia the BETA. Now only about 4 device drivers are pending. But that's not so wild. Is only for the business stuff on the laptop. Remote maintenance and so.
After the video driver on it I could activate the corresponding desktop. I have to say awesome.
Get just the new taskbar I must used to me yet. Some how I miss the Quick Launch toolbar. You can certainly place icons on the taskbar. But when you open the program icon is gone. So I can open the Explorer only once. Since I must arrange me probably still.
All programming is required on the box is then first of all for me. Starting with Visual Studio 2008 SP1. Everything easy. After the SQL Server 2008 with SP1. SQL Server was getting the message known compatibility issue there. I have ignored and found that it still runs.
The same for the DEAMON Tools Lite. Message away click and it still does.
Then came even Office 2007 and all the kram one else needs. Everything easy. So far I could install everything and it ran everything.
And now, where is it?
The part is still fast. Very fast. Takes less memory hogging than Vista and feels much better. Vista? No thanks. I no longer want.
W7 is that what should have Vista.
Pity that there will be no upgrade path to the final version. But what shall. This is a chance to get it sharp again. :-)
