Recently, I wanted to install the admin tools of SQL Server 2008 on my PC. Getting the message I should install Visual Studio 2008 SP1 but came when assessing the installation rules. I did pretty good. I had that Yes eh on it, but made it yet again.
SQL Server 2008 Setup was but still very stubborn and not allowed me the installation. What have I try everything?
Today a colleague has annoyed is powerful because it appeared the same problem. Now I bugged me even more. I remembered still a hack for the registry. However, I don't remember where I found the note.
As regedit remembers the last session but I didn't know yet where I have to search around. But the last time it didn't work so well. So times such as this?
Because I am brave. You adjust the registry. BUT AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Everything here is to find.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DevDiv\VS\Servicing\9.0
Here you'll find again the key's SP and SPIndex. This continues in the subdirectories. Me some to 0 instead of 1 were set. I've adapted this times. It was placed everything on 1.
And then there is still a key named SPName. Here I found the entries SP1 and RTM. I have replaced all RTM with SP1. Then I started the Setup for SQL Server 2008 and anxiously waiting for the installation rules.
Well, what should I say.
SQL Server 2008 is installed now on my PC and Visual Studio 2008 seems still to work. :-)
But as I said. At your own risk. worked for me. Whether there are any implications I don't know yet.
