This is the best lawyer story of the year, and probably also of the Decade!
It is true and has won first place in the American competition of the defence counsel (criminal lawyer Award Contest):
In Charlotte, NC, a lawyer bought a box of very rare and very expensive cigars
and they assured, among other things, against fire.
Over the next few months he smoked fully the cigars, and urged the insurance
(the first premium was not even rendered), to replace the damage.
In his claim letter the lawyer led to that the cigars were destroyed by a series of small fire damage.
The insurance company refused to pay obvious arguing that he had intended the cigars ver(b)raucht.
The lawyer sued... and won!
The Court agreed with the insurance that the claim was outrageous,
but arose from the insurance policy that the cigar against any kind of fire assured,
and exclusions of liability do not exist.
Therefore, the insurance must pay what have themselves agreed and signed.
Instead of a long and expensive appeal bring,
accepted insurance the judgment and paid $ 15,000 to the lawyer
had lost its cigars in the numerous fire damage.
Now is coming!
After the lawyer had cashed the check of insurance, he was arrested at their request in 24 cases of arson.
Having regard to his civil action and its information in court;
He was sentenced for intentional in fire making of his insured property 24 months imprisonment without probation) and 24,000 U.S. dollar fine.
