Recently we have migrated MS Virtual Server virtual servers on VMware Server.
Here, the servers have static IP's.
Today, we had to admit that the migrated server but were set to DHCP.
Now, we wanted to set the IP to a static. That did not go unfortunately.
Windows Server said the IP was assigned to an adapter.
We not found this but.
The problem was that VMware Server uses a different network adapter than
the MS Virtual Server. Only the network adapter of the virtual server was not
longer show up in the Device Manager. How should you now delete that?
The KB article 315539shows solution.
- Opencmd (start-> run-> cmd)
- set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices = 1 type, and then press [Enter]
- typestart devmgmt.msc , and then press the [Enter]
- In the Device Manager, which was now open, click view and Show hidden devices
choose. - Delete the old network card.
Then you can assign the IP. However, it could be that the first new server
must be started.
